4th IDK World Cup
Guyana made a clean sweep of the Boy’s 8-10 Team Kata event while also claiming the top spot in the Boy’s 17-19 Team Kata (black) and Girl’s 11-13 Team Kata (black) when the 4th edition of the International Karate Daigaku World Cup continued yesterday.
Staged at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, Guyana made a clean sweep in the boy’s 8-10 Team Kata (brown) and also won gold in the boy’s 17-19 Team Kata (black) and girl’s 11-13 Team Kata (black). The Guyanese that landed the top podium spot in the Team Kata (brown) Boy’s 8-10 were Kayden Savoury, Josiah Clinken, and Wyatt Savoury, while Adesini Benjamin, Anthony Charles, and Liam Faerber took the runner-up spot, and Liam Brummell, Christian Persaud, and Chris Persaud completed the clean sweep as they placed third.
Jude Thompson, Matthew Gurahoo, and Jade Thompson of Guyana triumphed in the Boy’s 17-19 Team Kata (black), with Trinidad and Tobago and St. Vincent and the Grenadines finishing in second and third, respectively. The Golden Arrow Head was once again in winners’ lane as Jason Jerrick, Malcom Francis, and Keith Beaton grabbed the top podium spot in the Team Kata, Bunkai, and Enbu Men’s 40-49 (black) events. Meanwhile, Guyana also landed another gold as Ayaan Nejal, Azari Samuels, and Aidan Alli won the Team Kata Boy’s 8-10 (black).
Guyanese Marissa Appanah, Sasika Dyasindoo, and Chelsea Benjamin won the Girl’s 11-13 Team Kata (black), while another Guyanese team, the combination of Macaria Bhimdat, Azaria Ramdatt, and Suemin Richards, clinched silver in the Girl’s 11-13 Team Kata (brown).
Bhimdat now has three silvers, while Richards has now taken her tally to two silvers and one bronze. Ramdatt has one silver. Elijah Jodhan of Guyana won bronze in the boy’s individual Kumite 8-10 (brown) category. On the other hand, Sensei Roland Fanfair (5th Dan), Sensei Bhagwandin Persaud (6th Dan), and Master Guylow (7th Dan) of the Guyana Karate College won silver in the Team Kata Masters’ 50+ class.
Trinidad and Tobago won the Team Enbu (Black) Men’s 20-39, while Guyana placed second. Trinidad and Tobago also secured the third place.
The event is set to culminate today at the same venue.
