A Pomona Housing Scheme teenage boy lost his life yesterday morning when the driver of the vehicle he was travelling in lost control and crashed into the gate to someone’s yard at Fairfield, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
The deceased, 16-year-old Julio Joseph, was a student at Aurora Secondary School.
The driver, his friend Gavinash Narine, 20, of Onderneeming Sand Pit, is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Suddie Public Hospital with head injuries and broken arms and legs. The crash occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning in Fairfield.
According to Joseph’s mother, Onika Persaud, her son had left to go to the barbershop. When he returned, he told her a friend was coming to pick him up to go to Supenaam.
She said Joseph later messaged her, saying he was at a supermarket in Supenaam and was not drinking. However, it was revealed that Joseph and his friend ended up at a bar.
According to reports, it was while they were driving back that Narine lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a resident’s yard. Eyewitnesses who rushed to their rescue said that the young men had sustained lots of bodily injuries. They were rescued and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital.
Persaud later received a call that her son had been involved in a crash and that she should go to the Suddie Public Hospital. By the time she arrived at the hospital, he had already died.
Joseph was the second child of his parents and was described as a very willing and loving child.
His mother is in shock at his sudden death. His body is at the Suddie Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. The vehicle suffered extensive damage.
