No drug shortage at Linden hospital – Isaacs

Regional Health Officer of Region Ten Dr Gregory Isaacs has denied allegations of drug shortages at the Linden Hospital Complex, following claims made by Vice Chairman and Executive Member of the Alliance For Change (AFC) Region Ten Mark Goring.

During AFC’s weekly press conference last week, Goring alleged that “nurses [were] complaining about the shortages of drugs” at the Linden Hospital Complex. In response, Dr Isaacs clarified to Stabroek News that the hospital had received drug supplies as recently as a few days ago and there was no current shortage affecting patient care.

Addressing further allegations by Goring that the Linden Hospital Complex lacked a governing board and was subject to unilateral decision-making by a single individual, Dr Isaacs dismissed those claims as misinformed. He emphasized that the hospital operations were overseen by the Ministry of Health and not by any one person acting independently. “I have weekly management meetings with the managers and supervisors,” he said.

“Politicians speak loosely and they do not understand the management of the healthcare system,” he stated in response to criticisms aired by Goring and others.
