Essequibo taxi driver pleads not guilty to assaulting peace officers

Jitendra Baljodah, a 35-year-old taxi driver from Onderneeming/Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast on Friday pleaded not guilty to assaulting two peace officers.

A release yesterday from the police said that on 26 June 2024, at Onderneeming/Sand Pit, Baljodah allegedly committed the offence on two police ranks on the Essequibo Coast.

He was also charged with resisting a peace officer,  disorderly behaviour and using threatening language. 

On Friday, the case was heard at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke. The charges were read to the defendant, who pleaded not guilty.

Bail was granted in the sum of $35,000 each for the assault of a peace officer and resisting a peace officer and $10,000 each for the threatening language and disorderly behaviour charges.

The case was adjourned to 2024-08-09 for disclosure of statements.
