Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport,  Charles S. Ramson, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) , Brigadier Omar Khan and the Colonel Administration and Quartering, Captain Coast Guard Vernon Burnett, MSM, on July 21, 2024, held engagements with the management, coaches and players of Guyana Defence Force Football Club (GDF FC).

A release from the GDF said that the GDF FC will be representing Guyana in the Caribbean Football Union Club Shield 2024 in Curacao from July 26, 2024 to August 4, 2024.

During the engagements, the CDS congratulated the GDF FC and wished them success for the remainder of the competition. He made reference to Enoch Carmichael, one of the players who collapsed and died during a practice match earlier this month. The CDS directed that the team’s effort moving into the next level of the competition be dedicated to not only winning for Guyana but also to do so in memory of Carmichael, the release said.

This is the fifth time since 2010 that GDF FC has qualified for this level of competition.
