Bethany, a picturesque village nestled in the Supenaam Creek, in Region Two, recently opened its doors to tourists with the launch of a new guest house.

Toshao Sonia Latchman, the village leader, confirmed the project, highlighting its origins with the previous village council under her leadership.

Latchman shared that the guest house project was inspired by visitors’ frequent admiration of the village’s serene scenery, unique black water, and vibrant birdsong. The guest house features three standard-sized rooms available at $8,000 each.

For those seeking a more rustic experience, hammock rentals and a park for tying hammocks are also offered. While meals are not included in the package, local residents do provide catering services upon request.

Additional amenities include ATV rentals for transport to the guest house and private boat services to the community.

Latchman emphasised that it was the community’s decision to build the guest house, recognising the need for tourist accommodations.

The project, aimed at promoting tourism and generating income, was supported by presidential grants from 2021 and 2022. The village council plans to further enhance the guest house with a kitchen installation.

Bethany residents are also being encouraged to venture into craft businesses, showcasing their culture and traditions to visitors. The revenue generated will support future community projects. Visitors can enjoy swimming, canoeing, and exploring the natural beauty of Bethany, including its trails and diverse birdlife.

Latchman also highlighted the village’s commitment to sustainable development by embarking on projects that will earn revenue for the community.

As a Seventh-day Adventist community, Bethany observes the Sabbath on Saturdays. While visitors are welcome on weekends, they are expected to respect the village rules. The village council is currently working to install free Wi-Fi for guests, enhancing their stay.

Latchman expressed gratitude to the government for the grants that made the project possible, looking forward to the positive impact on the community. Bethany’s new guest house not only offers a unique tourism experience but also supports the village’s vision for sustainable growth and cultural preservation.
