Shawn Davidson of North East Squatting Area appeared yesterday before acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with attempting to commit murder and armed robbery.
It was alleged that on July 17, at North East Squatting Area, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously injured a child with intent to murder him.
Davidson was not required to plead to the indictable offence.
It was also alleged that on January 19, at Lot 3A Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, while in the company of another and armed with a gun, he robbed Ayesha Benn of one gold and diamond chain valued at $120,000, one five-pennyweight gold chain valued at $70,000, four gold rings valued at $20,000, and $200,000 in cash, all totalling $577,000.
Davidson pled not guilty.
The prosecutor objected to bail on both charges. Regarding the attempted murder charge, he told the court that there is video evidence of the attack on the child by Davidson. He emphasised that these videos depicted Davidson burning the child and beating him with a stick, causing him to vomit blood. The court was also told that the child is currently nursing a fractured leg and is listed in critical condition in the hospital. The prosecutor’s final objections were based on the nature and prevalence of the offence and the penalty attached.
For the robbery under arms charge, the prosecutor also objected to bail, citing that both incidents involved children. During the robbery on January 19, Davidson allegedly held the victim’s three-year-old child at gunpoint and proceeded to escape with her valuables.
Davidson was denied bail and remanded to prison until August 14, pending a report and statements in the matter.
