Fifty-three-year-old taxi driver, Gregory House, of South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown, yesterday appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with larceny and remanded to prison.
It was alleged that on July 20, at Water Street, Georgetown, he stole one gold and diamond chain valued at $175,000 and a gold chain valued at $75,000, totalling $250,000.
House told the magistrate that he was not guilty of the crime and that he was being victimized by the court.
When asked if he had been before the court prior to his appearance yesterday, House told the magistrate that he had served some time last year. However, Magistrate McGusty recalled him appearing before her court earlier this year for a similar offence. As such, she refused bail and remanded him to prison pending statements.
The matter was adjourned to August 7.
