‘Elder’ Green and his convenient memories

Dear Editor,

After reading Hamilton Green’s letter in July 19, 2024 publication of Stabroek News, I felt compelled to transfer memories to words. “Elder” as he now seems contented to call himself, should do some serious and honest reflections, if he wants Guyanese to pay attention to his thoughts, seemingly affected by distorted memories. On another occasion, he has fumbled the ball, mumbling in his now accustomed way about a warped, unsubstantiated account while again in a series of comments attempting to stir the cauldron of racial and political animosity in our now peaceful co-existence.

‘Hammie’ sought to drag along the Linden corridor, a contract awarded for the construction of a school which would benefit the children of Linden, to a “known PPP supporter”. Without seeking to confirm whether this is foundational, my question is: aren’t PPP supporters entitled to contracts? In this particular case, he didn’t mention if the contract was “properly awarded”. I concede that if the contract is in fact past its completion date, without proven justification, the contractual obligations with liquidated damages must be imposed. Elder then deviously “slipped” in a reference to the “Linden martyrs”. Does he “conveniently” fail to remember that the Government and the Opposition agreed that the electricity supply to Lindeners should attract a phased cost, only for Granger to renege on that agreement in Parliament? Does he again have an elderly moment to remember that is what caused the politically instigated protests and that there is a view out there that mischief was afoot that caused the deaths of the three protesters?

As is widely known, documented and uncontroversially accepted, Burnham was in the “pockets” of the CIA. ‘Salvaging democracy’, a doctoral thesis on the period 1961 to 1964 by Dr. Jane Sillery can certainly serve to “jolt his memory”. I’m not going to sink to his level by reminding him of the horrendous political and racially instigated events at Wismar. Without any evidence (forget credible) he maneuvered into an area of a PPP “secret training camp” in the Berbice river.  Knowing Burnham and of him as I did, all “hell” would have ensued and other Sibley Halls would’ve been activated. Just a parting question here… can the former strongman of the PNC write his memories on the X13 PLAN??? In fact, I dare him to do so.

Sincerely,

H. N Nawbatt
