Man charged over AK-47, ammo, narcotics gets $1.3m bail

Thirty-seven-year-old Edinho Lewis, of Lot 25 Shopping Plaza, South Ruimveldt Gardens, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was released on $1.3 million bail on narcotics and firearm charges.

Lewis had previously appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on June 9 2024 when he was remanded on five counts.

It was alleged that on June 8, at Lot 126 Da Silva Street, Newtown, Kitty, he had in his possession, 544.5 grammes of cannabis, and 1,079 grammes of cocaine, all for the purpose of trafficking.

It was also alleged that he had in his possession, three Colt AR 15 magazines, one AK-47 magazine, three Glock magazines, four rounds of .223 ammunition, nine rounds of 9mm ammunition, 830 rounds of 7.62 ammunition, one AK-47 rifle, and a Glock 26 pistol, without being the holder of a firearm licence.

Lewis pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva, who represented Lewis and renewed his application for bail, told the magistrate that his client was prepared to lodge his passport with the court and comply with any conditions as prescribed by the court.

On both of the narcotics charges, bail was granted in the sum of $300,000 each. On the firearm and ammunition charges he was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 each, for a total sum $1,350,000.

The matter was adjourned to August 9 for report and fixture.
