Former Leader of the Alliance for Change (AFC) Khemraj Ramjattan has called for the immediate retirement of acting Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken.
Ramjattan, a former Minister of Public Security, made the call at the AFC weekly press conference yesterday. Ramjattan’s demand follows numerous allegations of corruption within the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and Hicken’s surpassing of the retirement age.
President Irfaan Ali had previously extended Hicken’s tenure, which had officially ended on July 22, 2023. According to a statement from President Ali, “I’ve already issued a letter extending the services of the Commissioner of Police,” with no specific end date for the extension.
