Slingerz title hopes suffered a setback on Thursday evening as they were held 1-1 by fierce rival Den Amstel in the ‘West Demerara Derby’ in the KFC Elite League at the National Training Centre, Providence.
The cagey encounter only produced one conversion in the first half, as Andrew Murray Jr. found the back of the net for the Vergenoegen-based outfit in the 39th minute.
However, Den Amstel would earn a share of the spoils as Delano Mentore restored parity to proceedings in the 57th minute. Racing onto the left of the penalty area, Mentore uncorked a powerful strike into the roof of the right corner.
Due to the outcome, Slingerz climb onto 39 points, one point behind league leader the Guyana Defence Force, who has a game in hand. On the other hand, Den Amstel climbs onto 19 points and remains in the sixth position.
