The Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri was without power for 28 minutes last night after a blackout and its backup system failed to kick in immediately.
A statement last night from the airport said that it experienced a power outage at approximately 9.21 pm.
“While emergency backup power systems were activated, there was a delay in the switch-over to these systems, resulting in a temporary disruption of services in the terminal building.
“CJIA’s technical team worked diligently to rectify the issue, and backup power was successfully restored to the terminal building at 9.49 pm”, the statement said. CJIA said that there was no impact on flight operations and it regretted any inconvenience or discomfort caused.
Last night, the Guyana Power and Light said that its teams were working to repair burst power lines on the primary network at Brickery, East Bank Demerara.
This incident, it said, is affecting service to customers from Garden of Eden to Timehri, EBD and a section of the Soesdyke Highway.
