CWI Men’s U-19 Super50
Guyana’s unbeaten run in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Men’s U-19 Super50 competition was brought to a grinding halt yesterday as they suffered a nine-wicket defeat to Barbados in a thoroughly lopsided contest at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in Kingstown, St. Vincent.
Barbados won the toss, sent the Guyanese in to bat, and bowled them out for a paltry 58 in 33.4 overs before returning to chase it down in just 7.5 overs for the loss of one wicket.
From 42-1 in the 16th over, the Guyanese lost the remaining nine wickets for a mere 16 runs, in what can only be described as a collapse of epic proportions.
Only two Guyanese managed to make it into double figures, opener Rampertab Ramnauth (15) and skipper Mavindra Dindyal (11) as the rest of the batters crumpled like paper. The Barbados bowling attack saw three of them capture three wickets apiece.
Nathan Sealy (3-6, 7 overs), Kyron King (3-7, 6.4 overs), and Zishan Motara (3-13, 10 overs) were the tormentors of the Guyanese batsmen.
Needing just 59 for victory, Zion Braithwaite and Joshua Morris romped to victory with unbeaten knocks of 28 (23 balls) and 23 (18 balls), with Kyle Jordan (8) the only casualty in the run chase, dismissed by Jonathan Van Lange. The Bajans ended on 61/1.
Guyana will next face the Windward Islands tomorrow at the Park Hill Playing Field in Conarie. Meanwhile, all-rounder Myhiem Khan has been called up to replace Isai Thorne, who has been named in the West Indies Championship Squad that will face South Africa from Wednesday.
Khan will be available for the final round of the Super50 tournament, where Guyana is in pole position to win the title despite yesterday’s loss.
