Avion Kesney’s game-high 27 points led his side, Team White, to a 52-47 win over Team Red in the opening encounter of the Youth Basket Guyana (YBG) All Star Games yesterday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Playing in the U-14 category, Kesney scored just over half of his team’s points in a keenly contested match.
He was well supported by Kemal Pickering and Darren Dublin, who had eight points apiece. Additionally, Pickering had two steals and eight rebounds in an invaluable contribution, while Kesney snatched right rebounds and had five steals to help push his side to victory.
On the other hand, Team Red was led by Kaden Nichols’ 17 points, albeit in a losing cause. In addition to his 17 points, Nichols had two steals. The supporting cast came in the form of Lennick Seaforth (10 points, seven rebounds, two steals) and Jarren Boucher (eight points, five rebounds, three steals), who gave it their all in front of a good-sized crowd but could not stave off Kesney and his men.
Up to press time, other games were yet to be played. The results from those games will be published in a subsequent story.
