Bullet in brain: Plumpy Boss in coma in St Maarten

(Trinidad Express) The mother of Trinibad artiste Mescach Emmanuel, better known as Plumpy Boss, is calling on the government of St Maarten to assist her son who is in critical condition after he was shot several times on Saturday night on the Dutch Caribbean island. Emmanuel is in a medically- induced coma as a bullet is lodged in his brain.

However, his mother, Sandra Emmanuel, aka Warrior Princess, spoke with SMN News in St Maarten, in which she called on the government of the island to help her son.

‘I have been told that the bullet is lodged in his brain and he has been put in a medically- induced coma at the St Maarten Medical Centre. They told me that in situations like this they would have flown him to France or Guadeloupe because they said they have no neurosurgeons on the island. But since he is not a citizen of the country and he doesn’t have health insurance they can’t do that,’ she explained.

She continued: ‘Right now, they are telling me that my best bet is to airlift him back to Trinidad. So I am calling on the government of St Maarten to do something, to intervene. Because my son did not go into the country to sell drugs, or rob anyone, or hurt anyone. He went to the country with the intent to entertain the citizens of the island. Even though he knew that there were persons there who were affiliated with the Sixx gang. He still took a chance. And now he is in a critical condition and needs urgent help, yet he is not getting it.’

She said that she was a mother of nine children and had already lost two sons to gun violence in 2009 and 2013 and did not want to lose a third.

She, therefore, called for intervention either from the government of St Maarten or the government of Trinidad and Tobago.

Mescach Emmanuel was shot around 4.10 a.m. on Sunday. Police were told that Emmanuel had just performed at a concert in the Maho area and was leaving in a black minivan with his entourage when they were confronted by a group of armed men.

The suspects opened fire on the vehicle, resulting in five people, including a woman, being shot and injured. The injured were taken for medical treatment. Some 50 rounds of ammunition were found at the scene.
