The Board of Industrial Training (BIT) last week announced that it had welcomed a delegation from the Dominican Republic and the National Institute for Technical and Vocational Training (INFOTEP) to pave the way for new collaborative initiatives.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between two bodies.
INFOTEP, established in 1980, is the governing body of the national technical professional training in the Dominican Republic. Its objective is to organize and regulate the national system of technical professional training, with the combined efforts of the state, workers, and employers to focus on the full development of human resources and the increase in productivity of companies across all sectors of economic activities.
The visiting team was headed by the Director of INFOTEP, Rafeal E. Santos Badia; accompanied by Vice Minister of Presidency, Jose R. Holguin Brito; Deputy General Director of INFOTEP, Maria Moria; Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Guyana, Ernesto Torres-Pereyra, and other senior officials of INFOTEP.
The Dominican Republic team paid a courtesy call on Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, and CEO/ Secretary of BIT, Richard Maughn, and discussed ways to establish mutual principles of cooperation under which both parties will work to improve skills delivery to optimize standards for innovative technical and vocational education for Guyana.
After the courtesy call, INFOTEP’s team took the opportunity to visit the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (C-TVET) under the Ministry of Education to gain a deeper understanding of the in-depth skills demands in Guyana’s workforce.
The team also visited BIT’s Skills Development and Certification Centre at Unity Mahaica, where an official ceremony for the MoU signing was held in the presence of Deputy Chief Education Officer, Dr Ritesh Tularam; Chairman of C-TVET, Floyd Scott; Director for Centre for Local Business Development, Dr Natasha Gaskin Peters; and Director of Guyana Online Academy of Learning, Dr Jacob Opadeyi; along with other technical officials of C-TEVT.
The collaboration with BIT will introduce a modernized curriculum, innovative training methods, the use of technology, trainer/instructor development, monitoring and evaluation, assessment, and certification for citizens of Guyana, the release added.
