20th Regan Rodrigues Memorial Cycling Road Race pedals off tomorrow

The Ricks & Sari Agro Industries Ltd will collaborate with the Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) tomorrow to host the 20th edition of the Regan Rodrigues Memorial Cycling Road Race. The event also coincides with the 20th anniversary of the passing of the “Gentle Giant,” Regan Rodrigues, an avid cycling enthusiast in his days.

Rodrigues, the founder of Ricks & Sari, was renowned for his generosity and love for motor racing and cycling, he was a close friend of former National Cycling Coach Hassan Mohamed. Together, the duo promoted numerous cycling events, which included the prestigious End of Year Cycling Award Ceremony for outstanding cyclists of the National Park Season.

This event, hosted for many years at the Hollywood Night Club owned by Regan, was a coveted title among cyclists.

This year, the memorial race will start at Schoonord, West Bank Demerara, at 8:30 am tomorrow. Meanwhile, the ‘Upright’ category and the re-introduced Cat 4 Category will also be included in the event.

The winner of the senior category will pocket $20,000 and a trophy with second through sixth in that category also pocketing cash prizes ranging from $15,000 to $6000.

On the other hand, the winners of the Veterans O50 and O40 will receive $15000 and $12000 respectively while the Category 4 winner will also receive $15000. The Ladies and Upright winner will ride away with $10,000 each with $12000 going to the winner of the Junior category.
