-coach Williams optimistic about team’s performance
The Junior Lady Jaguars, the Guyana Girls’ National Under-15 Team touched down in Aruba yesterday, ready to take on Anguilla on August 6 in their opening fixture of the Concacaf Under-15 Girls’ Championship Qualifiers.
With three days until the opening match, Assistant Coach Delon Williams is “very optimistic” about the team’s potential with respect to their upcoming performance in the regional tournament. The Qualifiers pits 28 squads from across the Caribbean against each other from August 5 to 11.
As the Guyanese squad has been in training for just over a month, Williams said; “This bunch has brought so much energy. This is a very talented group.”
The squad which is 18 strong, features a mix of local and overseas-based players, including emerging talent from the recently concluded inaugural GFF Blue Water Shipping Under-15 Girls’ National Secondary School Championship.
Guyana has been granted a place in League C, where they will also face St. Vincent and the Grenadines on August 7, followed by a clash with Guadeloupe on August 8 and then their final fixture against hosts Aruba on August 9. All games are set to kick off at the Complejo Deportivo Guillermo Stadium in Oranjestad.
In a press release to the media, Women’s Football Federation (WFF) President Andrea Johnson spoke with excitement about the squad, saying; “I am absolutely impressed with their dedication to representing themselves, their families, and the country. I am incredibly proud of their commitment so far.”
The junior Lady Jags first game will kick off from 1 pm on Tuesday.
