Dwayne Griffith, aka ‘Sheik’, a 26-year-old businessman from Kitty, Georgetown, was arrested at about 8.30 am yesterday after he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and eleven matching rounds of ammunition.
A release from the police said that ranks were on mobile patrol duty on Robb Street, Georgetown, when they received certain information and proceeded to the Red Dragon Night Club. There, they contacted Griffith and conducted a search on his person, during which one 9mm pistol with a magazine containing eleven live 9mm rounds of ammunition was found in the waist of his pants.
Griffith was asked if he was the holder of a firearm licence, and he replied in the negative.
He was told of the offence committed, arrested, and cautioned. He was then taken to the Alberttown Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were marked, sealed, and lodged in separate evidence bags in his presence to be taken to the ballistics section for analysis. The suspect was placed in custody. Investigations are in progress.
