Mahaica, Buxton Stars win in East Coast Football

Mahaica Determinators and Buxton Stars opened their respective campaigns with contrasting wins when the East Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League continued at the Buxton Community Centre ground.

Mahaica dismantled Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph 8-0. The contest was effectively over at the halftime interval, as Mahaica stormed to a 4-0 advantage. Glenrick Roberts opened the floodgates in the fourth minute.

Azuma Roberts, the eventual scorer of a helmet-trick, opened his account in the eighth minute before sealing his brace in the 25th minute to make it 3-0. Julius Hamilton then completed the first half demolition with a 35th-minute effort.

Hamilton then made his presence felt once more as he sealed his brace in the 50th minute to push the score to 5-0. Not to be outdone, Roberts recorded his hat-trick in the 65th minute before completing his personal tally five minutes later to make it 7-0. The result was then sealed in the 81st minute as Hamilton secured his hat-trick.

On the other hand, Buxton Stars downed Golden Stars 2-0. Joel Marks opened the scoring in the ninth minute. This proved to be the only conversion of the first half. The score was then sealed in the 56th minute as Jumali Major netted.

The event continues today at the Mahaicony Community Centre ground. At 17:00hrs, Victoria Kings will lock horns with Airy Hall, while the feature contest will pit hosts Mahaicony Western Lions against Haslington at 19:00hrs.
