Guyana’s top male sprinter, Emanuel Archibald, finished eighth in his men’s 100m heats yesterday and therefore could not book progression to the semi-finals of the event at the Olympic Games that are currently underway in Paris, France.
Archibald could only manage a time of 10.40 seconds, some way off his personal best of 10.09 seconds.
Archibald became the fourth Guyanese casualty at the games, joining swimmers Aleka Persaud, Raekwon Noel, and table tennis player Chelsea Edghill, all knocked out of their respective events in the first stages of competition.
Following his early exit, Archibald made a cryptic post to his personal Facebook page, seemingly questioning his performance.
The post read, “7 years to run 10.4 sec, omg.”
On the other hand, Guyana’s fifth and final athlete in Paris, Aliyah Abrams, will be in action today in the women’s 400m event, Guyana’s last hope of making a mark on the Games.
