– to get second shot in Repechage today
Guyana’s sole remaining athlete at the Olympic Games in Paris, France, Aliyah Abrams produced a season best performance yesterday in the Heats of the Women’s 400m but finished fifth in her heat and thus did not book progression to the semi-finals.
However, the quarter-miler will have another bite at the cherry today in the Repechage round.
The repechage is a contest in which the best-placed of those who failed to win heats compete for a place in the next round.
Abrams to her credit, ran a season best of 51.55 seconds in her heat. With a second chance today, she will be hoping to come close to or better her personal best of 50.20s in the event to keep her Olympic hopes alive.
Despite having a second chance, Abrams’ task will be an uphill battle as she will run on the outside in lane eight. Her heat, the first in the repechage round, is scheduled for 05:20 am today.
The winner of each repechage heat and the next two fastest athletes will advance to the semi-finals.
