The Guyana Taekwondo Association (GTA) recently held an Open Taekwondo competition which was a resounding success in both the Kyorugi and Poomsae disciplines.

In layman terms, Kyorugi comprises sparring while in Poomsae, the competitors demonstrate a variety of  attacking and defensive Taekwondo techniques, built in a certain sequence of combinations of techniques of hands and feet, implying a duel with an imaginary rival.

In the Cadet Boys divisions, Nathan Vandergyden excelled, clinching first place in both Poomsae and Kyorugi with Vivek Bassoo taking second place in both categories.
