LONDON, CMC – West Indies captain Hayley Matthews produced a sensational spell of spin bowling to lead Welsh Fire to a dominant seven-wicket victory over Southern Brave when the Hundred continued here yesterday.
Matthews, who was named Player-of-the-Match, snared three wickets for 16 runs from 20 deliveries with her off-spin to help restrict her opponents to just 84 runs.
She accounted for Freya Kemp for 11, bowled Chloe Tryon for 9 and also snared the wicket of Rhianna Southby for four, as Southern Brave never recovered from a horrific start after losing Smriti Mandhana to the day’s first delivery.
Freya Davies (2-12) and Jess Jonassen (2-14) provided good support.
Matthews then struggled with the bat, scoring one run from 16 deliveries, but Fire captain Tammy Beaumont topscored with 34, Sarah Bryce hit an unbeaten 20 and Jonassen scored 13 not out to guide their side to victory with 10 balls remaining.
