At about 03:30 hrs yesterday, Police ranks on mobile patrol duties intercepted a white Premio motor car, PNN 5981 in the vicinity of the Mackenzie/Wismar Bridge in Linden and arrested the driver and occupant after they were found to be in possession of an unlicensed 9mm firearm.
The police said in a statement that the two occupants in the vehicle gave their names as Devon Glasgow, a 19-year-old labourer of West Watooka, Wismar who was seated in the front passenger seat, and Devontea Tappin, a 21-year-old labourer of Andyville, Wismar who was the driver.
The ranks informed the occupants that they wanted to search the vehicle, their person and personal belongings for anything illegal. The ranks then ordered the occupants to take possession of their belongings and exit the vehicle. While the occupants exited the car, the police said that Glasgow started to behave disorderly. The police then warned him about his conduct.
A search was conducted, and the police found a 9mm pistol without ammunition in Glasgow’s pants crutch. The police told him of the offence and cautioned him, and he remained silent. The other occupant and his personal belongings and vehicle were searched, but nothing illegal was found.
Glasgow and Tappin were both arrested and taken to the Wismar Police Station along with the firearm as investigations continue.
