Ragubeer, Benjamin, & Cheong among winners at Karate C/ships

Kishan Ragubeer, Chelsea Benjamin, and Dimitri Cheong were among the winners when the Guyana Karate Federation (GKF) staged its National Junior Championship at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.

This was disclosed by a press release from the GKF. In the Boy’s 12-14 Kata section, Ragubeer emerged victorious, relegating Omar Shariff and Jamal Bento to second and third place, respectively. Ragubeer then prevailed in the Boy’s 12-14 Kumite segment, besting Samuel George and Bento, who ended in the second and third positions, respectively.

In a similar vein, Benjamin captured the Girl’s 15-17 Kata title. Julia Badal and Esther Reeves rounded out the top three in that order. Benjamin also emerged victorious in the Girl’s 15-17 Kata division, consigning the duo of Annamary Holder and Reeves to second and third place apiece.

Likewise, Cheong captured the Boy’s 15-17 Kata title, with Jeremy Hargobin and David Hackett ending in second and third place, respectively. He would also claim the Kumite 55+KG accolade, as Ty David ended in second place.

In other results, Hargobin won the Boy’s 15-17 Kumite 55KG title, ahead of Adi Persaud, while Elijah Jodhan clinched the Boy’s 6-8 Kata accolade ahead of Shane Mohamed and Wayne Browne, who finished in second and third apiece.

Also, Emery Pestano won the Kumite segment of the Boy’s 6-8 division, with Browne and Younce Allen finishing in second and third, respectively. Also, Rachna Janki prevailed in the Girl’s 6-8 Kata category, beating Christabel Persaud and Maya Balram, who finished in that order.

According to the correspondence, approximately 76 individuals from seven of the nine affiliates competed at the tournament. Below is the complete list of results.
