-maintenance cost high
Social media netizens have reported that the dental boat, Lady Janet, is currently down, and a post by Andrieko Basir shows the boat in a state of deterioration and sinking.
According to Member of Parliament, Nandranie Coojah, the boat was refurbished and repaired free of cost by the late Jeer Ramotar and the Ministry of Health. In her post she said the only thing that was needed was a battery. The boat however is down due to high maintenance costs.
However this has not affected the services the vessel usually offers. Although the `Lady Janet’ was refurbished and was used to service the Pomeroon River, it could not be used to enter creeks and canal. As a result, the health services in the region decided to construct smaller health boats that now conduct medical outreaches, and on these outreaches, dental services are provided to residents in the rural communities.
Frequent outreaches are currently conducted in the region and the same services that were provided by the `Lady Janet’ dental boat are still being provided. The region has 16 health boats that are used to conduct outreaches in various communities.
