Police have arrested four persons and seized three Glock pistols as they investigate an alleged shooting incident on Samora Haddaway, a 41-year-old driver from Timehri, which occurred at about 11 pm on August 06th, 2024, at Garnett and Middleton streets, Georgetown.
Those arrested were Stephan Ramdass, a 39-year-old from Great Diamond, EBD; Patrick Forbes, a 30-year-old from Wales Housing Scheme, WBD; Raji Chanderpaul, a 41-year-old from Better Hope, ECD; and Mahesh Budho, from Cummings Lodge, ECD.
The police said in a statement that investigations reveal that the victim had stopped the lorry (#GAG 1844) on the eastern side of Middleton Street, facing west on Garnett Street, waiting to transport a container that was on Middleton and Garnett streets.
Haddaway’s porter, 53-year-old Ovid Thomas, went to the container to secure it. The victim was then approached by five men, two armed with handguns, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The men started to hit the lorry, and two of them pointed their firearms at Haddaway, which caused him to become fearful for his life and caused him to lie flat in the lorry. The victim then heard several loud explosions, which appeared to be gunshots, the police said.
The suspects then left in a white motorcar, #PAF 9078. The Police were summoned and responded immediately. While trying to escape, the car drove into a hole on the road, which caused the two right-side tyres to burst. The vehicle eventually stopped on Vlissengen Road, in the vicinity of the Survival Wholesale store.
Police ranks surrounded the vehicle, carried out a search of the car, and arrested the four persons inside. Three Glock pistols containing eleven, seventeen and sixteen matching rounds of ammunition, respectively, were found.
They were all asked if they held a firearm licence, and they all replied in the negative.
All four men were arrested and escorted to the Alberttown Police Station along with the firearms and ammunition, where they were placed into custody. The firearms and ammunition were lodged pending further investigation.
