Mark Chester, a 29-year-old labourer of Queenstown, Essequibo Coast was charged on Wednesday with attempting to commit murder and later that day he was committed to stand trial in the High Court on the matter.
It would appear from the police press release yesterday that he was subject to a paper committal following a legislative amendment to do away with preliminary inquiries.
Chester is accused of committing the act on Marlon Jones, a 45-year-old self-employed resident of Lot 2 Queenstown, Essequibo Coast, on 12th April 2024 at Queenstown. The charge was laid under Section 103 (c) of the Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 8:01.
On Wednesday, the case was heard at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke. The accused appeared virtually from prison. Two witnesses testified.
Magistrate Clarke ruled that based on the evidence presented, there was sufficient evidence before the court for the accused to stand trial at the next practicable session at the Suddie Supreme Criminal Court.
The accused reserved his defence and witness for the High Court.
Bail was granted in the sum of $500,000.
