A number of foreign companies are exhibiting at this year’s building expo.
One such company, Isotex – a company out of the Dominican Republic, specialises in manufacturing materials for construction that encompass energy efficiency, durability, sustainability, low operational costs, fast installation and thermal-acoustic properties. The use of these materials reduces construction time, waste, weight, as well as the consumption of electricity by 50 per cent. They are manufactured and designed to enhance high quality of life due to their thermal and acoustic qualities, while reducing the carbon footprint, thus assisting in the preservation of the environment. The company’s “Green Think” programme is designed to promote values in favour of the protection of nature.
Commercial Director of Isotex, Nicolas Fernandez, explained to the Sunday Stabroek, “All products are basically for energy saving, clean, fast, and simple construction. We have another company that does steel structures that have a high value… These structures do not need maintenance, they don’t need to be painted.” He also stressed that these products have a high longevity, making it ideal for the construction of housing and schools. “It’s our first time here [so] we want people to know about the products so that they can benefit from them. We believe that Guyana is a country that is growing and has a great future. We want to be a part of that development to help out [for] the Guyanese people to have better sustainable buildings and way of living.”
Ambit Polyurethane, is a company out of Dallas, Texas, in the United States. Its representative, Justin Luke, explained that their foam products help to reduce energy costs and consumption by eliminating heat from the home. The specialised foam when installed will prevent heat from penetrating the home and promote a cooler environment. The foam reduces pollutants and allergens while preventing pests from entering the home. It also helps to reduce noise and promote air quality in the home.
“It’s something that we want to introduce to this country to break down the energy cost. With the capacity of cooling a room, we will save energy on air-conditioning units. You would be able to save on the energy costs,” Luke added.
SCL Group of Companies is Trinidadian-based company specialising in providing engineering, industrial, janitorial, concrete, and cement products. The company, which has a branch in Guyana, supplied construction chemicals and products to major projects including Heroes Highway, Exxon Mobil’s administrative building, and Guyana Shore Base Inc. Their products are designed to speed up the construction process, join concrete, shorten concrete curing periods, and waterproof concrete.
The Sales Manager, Terrence Baker, told the Stabroek News, “We add mixtures to the concrete. You see an increase in the number of ready-mix trucks on the road, so we add mixtures that will allow them to transport the concrete for many distances. It will enhance the concrete texture to the point of waterproofing. You can complete the projects in a shorter time with our products.”
