The Working People’s Alliance (WPA) has announced its presidential candidate and leader of its list of candidates as part of its initial preparation for the upcoming general and regional elections.
According to a WPA release yesterday, Dr David Hinds, a longstanding member, has been selected as its presidential candidate and leader of its list of candidates. He was also appointed a co-leader of the party.
The WPA expressed the view that Dr. Hinds brings a wealth of political experience and knowledge of Guyanese politics and society to his new roles. It added, “He has also emerged as one of the major social and political influencers in our country. Through his daily programme, Politics 101, he has developed a political following which WPA feels could help increase electoral support for our party in the coming elections.”
The release also announced the appointment of new office bearers to lead the party in the coming period and they are: Co-leaders: Dr David Hinds, Tacuma Ogunseye and Rohit Kanhai; Elders: Dr Rupert Roopnaraine, Dr Clive Thomas, and Dr Maurice Odle; Chairman: Deon Abrams; Organising Secretary: Kidackie Amsterdam; Administrative Secretary: Desmond Trotman; Overseas/Diaspora Secretary: Keith Branch; Economic Policy Secretary: Dr Dennis Canterbury
The WPA also expressed its intention in the coming months to launch its campaign with initial outreaches to communities across the country aimed at reintroducing the party to the society and putting its platform to the broad masses of people. The party indicated that it also intends to use the opportunity to increase its membership and support base, the release added.
