Hosts Buxton Stars maintained their perfect record in the East Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League, defeating Melanie by a 2-0 score-line at the Community Centre ground.
The combination of Joel Marks and Gregory Moonsammy found the back of the net, respectively, for the Buxtonians to secure the hard-fought win. Marks recorded the only conversion of the first half, as he made his presence felt in the 30th minute.
Following the resumption of play, Moonsammy etched his name on the score sheet in the 62nd minute to double their advantage. Melanie would eventually record a consolation goal in the form of Jesus Nunez, who found the back of the net in the 73rd minute.
Meanwhile, Mahaicony Western Lions defeated Haslington via walkover after the latter failed to take the playing area at the stipulated time.
The event continues today at the same venue. At 17:00hrs, Mahaica Determinators will lock horns with Golden Stars, while the feature contest will pit hosts Victoria Kings against Airy Hall Stars at 19:00hrs.
