Guyana Cup to take over Rising Sun Turf today

The 16th edition of the Guyana Cup will take centre stage today at Rising Sun Turf Club in West Coast Berbice and is arguably the most anticipated iteration in its history.

The Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee-organised event will see the country’s top horses and newly imported horses from various countries battle for over GYD $40M in cash and prizes.

The defending champion in the feature race is Easy Time. This time around, Easy Time drew outside gate 12 and is the favourite to retain his title. The feature event will have 12 horses and provide strong competition, which makes for a mouthwatering contest.

Horses entered and respective gate positions for the Guyana Cup feature event are: Stat, Bossalina, Loyal Company, Beckham James, John Bull, Olympic Kremlin, Nova Sol, Stolen Money, Stormy Victory, Oy Vey, Ritorna Vincetori, and Easy Time.

The first of 10 races will be the L-Non-Earners, which is expected to start at 11:50am. Race two will be the L Class event, which starts at 12:25pm and is followed by the K Class at 1:00pm.

Race 4 is the J Class race at 1:35pm, and Race 5 is the H Class event at 2:15pm. Race six will be the F Class race, which is expected to be run off at 2:50pm.

The two-year-old race is set for 3:25pm, followed by the Open Sprint at 4:00pm.

The penultimate race of the day will be the Derby at 4:35pm, while the feature event will be the final race of the day, which is expected to commence at 5:30pm.

This year’s Guyana Cup purse is among the most significant in the Caribbean, and horses from various countries will be out to battle for supremacy. Additionally, jockeys from abroad are also in the country, preparing to take on their local counterparts for today’s race.

Approximately 100 horses have confirmed entry for the grand-one-day races, and while there will be electric action on track, there is entertainment for everyone as kids will be treated to a fun park, and the adults will pay keen attention to a sound clash that takes centre stage after the races are done and dusted.
