Partly decomposed body of woman found in trench near Eccles landfill

The partly decomposed body of an unidentified woman was found floating in a trench at Eccles dumpsite road on the East Bank Demerara on Saturday afternoon.

According to a press release, the police received a call at about 15:00 hrs on Saturday about a body floating in a trench at Eccles dumpsite road and discovered the partly decomposed body of the woman, believed to be of mixed ancestry and between the ages of 30 to 40. The woman’s body was found floating face-down in the trench, the release said.

The unidentified woman was removed from the body of water and a Crime Scene Investigation officer examined her body, discovering what appeared to be blood and water flowing from the nostrils, the release said. The face was swollen, and the body was clad in long black tights and a grey sleeveless top, with only one side of a pair of slippers, it added.

The release said there were no visible marks of violence on the body, which was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home to await identification and a post-mortem examination.
