Undefeated defending champion, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), defeated the Western Tigers 4-2 to retake their lead at the standings when the KFC Elite League continued at the National Training Centre in Providence on Saturday evening.
The contest, which was locked at 2-2 entering added time, was decided by Ian Dooker, who recorded a brace in the space of five minutes. Dooker secured the lead for the army unit as he etched his name on the score-sheet in the 90th+1 minute.
He then sealed the hard-fought victory and the vital three points via a 90th+6 conversion. Prior to the dramatic conclusion, Michael Oie broke the deadlock for the Western Tigers in the 10th minute via a penalty conversion. The lead proved to be short-lived as Abumchi Benjamin equalised four minutes later, also from the penalty spot. The score remained unchanged heading into the halftime interval.
Upon the resumption, Kelsey Benjamin propelled GDF into the lead as he found the back of the net in the 52nd minute from the penalty mark. Once again, the advantage would be extinguished, as Oie completed his brace seven minutes later to restore parity to proceedings.
Due to the outcome, GDF leapfrogged Slingerz FC to secure the top spot on 43 points. On the other hand, the Western Tigers remain in fifth place with 25 points.
