– Golden Stars, Mahaica draw
Still in its early stages, the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) League continued on Sunday night at the Buxton Ground, East Coast Demerara.
The two matches played saw Golden Stars from Golden Grove playing to a 1-1 stalemate with Mahaica Determinators while Airy Hall Stars inflicted a 3-0 drubbing on a youthful and inexperienced Victoria Kings.
The match between Golden Stars and Mahaica Determinators was largely played in midfield with windows of goal scoring opportunities proving elusive. Despite that fact, Travis Williams managed to grab an early goal for the Golden Stars to put them ahead in the 12th minute.
There would be no further action in front of goal as halftime saw the score remaining the same.
However, the advent of the second half saw Mahaica clawing their way back into the game with a Julius Hamilton strike in the 54th minute.
With both teams aggressively trying to press for a winner, the game petered out to a draw by full-time with points shared.
In the second fixture of the night, a youthful Victoria Kings which fielded a 14-year-old wing back and a couple of 17-year-olds, was guilty of mistakes in defence which saw them punished in the first half.
Omar Williams was the player on target for Airy Hall, collecting the first of his two goals in the 25th minute.
He would add the second in the 59th minute as Airy Hall took control of the match with Eoin Abel sealing the deal with a goal in the 78th minute as Airy Hall ran out 3-0 winners to collect maximum points.
The League continues on Friday night at the Buxton ground with BV Triumph taking on Airy Hall Stars at 7 PM while Mahaica Determinators will clash with Melanie at 9 PM.
