Forty-one-year-old Euzil Augustine, a miner from Annai Village, North Rupununi, appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir where he was charged with murder of Lawrence Henry at the Kamarang airstrip on August 8.
Augustine was not required to plead to the indictable offence.
The court heard that on the day in question, Henry was imbibing alcohol at the Kamarang landing and at about 23:45 hours he was walking along the airstrip when he brushed against Augustine who allegedly uttered a racial slur toward him. A scuffle ensued and Augustine allegedly pulled a knife from his waist, stabbed Henry in the abdomen, and then walked away.
The magistrate remanded Augustine to prison and the matter was adjourned to September 18 to be continued at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
