The body of a woman found in a trench alongside the Eccles landfill road has been identified as that of Angela Andrea Sooknanan, a 41-year-old woman of unsound mind of Thomas Street, Kitty, Georgetown.
According to police, the woman’s body was identified at around 15.00 hours on Monday afternoon by her father, Romel Sooknanan, a 76-year-old also of Thomas Street, Kitty.
The father told the police that Angela was of unsound mind. She had last visited her doctor on Thursday, August 8, and was treated for her illness.
On Friday, August 9, she asked her mother, Charlotte Sooknanan, for money to go to Diamond. Her body was later found in the trench at Eccles industrial site.
The deceased’s sister, Sabrina Sooknanan said that the family later found out that Angela took a taxi from Kitty Cabs taxi service located in Kitty, to go to Diamond. According to Sabrina, when the family questioned the taxi driver who drove her to Diamond, he told them that Angela had asked to be taken to Diamond. He did as requested and waited for her, but while heading back to town, she began misbehaving and would not come out of the vehicle, so he dropped her off in the area of Ruimveldt, on Mandela Avenue and left her there.
However, the sister stated that there isn’t anyone she knows of who lives in Diamond, and further, finds it odd that her sister would want to visit Diamond and her body later ends up in Eccles when she was dropped off in Ruimveldt.
Sabrina related that the family learnt about the disapperance of Angela on Friday night when she failed to return home. They waited until Saturday moring to see if she would show up but she didn’t and that was when they reported her missing at the Kitty Police station. The police advised them to continue searching which they did, but to no avail. On Tuesday morning, the sister contacted journalist, Gordon Moseley, to have him post her missing sister on his Facebook page. Moseley subsequently instructed her to check with the police again as there was a report of a woman’s body that was found in a trench and the clothes they said she was wearing matched the woman’s description. The family took his advice and yesterday afternoon found out it that it was indeed her missing sister.
