(Trinidad Express) Kiefer Wilson was run over and killed by a car driven by an ex-boyfriend, after she was struck with a wheel spanner on Tuesday night.
Wilson attempted to run away following the attack with the spanner but the perpetrator pursued her in his car and slammed the vehicle into her. She died at the scene.
Shazara Sankar yesterday told reporters that her sister, who was also called Dianne, was in a relationship with the man but had since brought it to an end.
‘She lock him off for a while. Last time I talk to her about him was last week and she tell me she block him off of everything because he was too toxic,’ Sankar said.
She said the man used to park in front of her sister’s house when he did not get through to her on the phone.
‘She say he was just too toxic, she just fed up of him and she not about that right now,’ Sankar added.
Wilson, of Caratal Road, Gasparillo, celebrated her 27th birthday on Saturday. Sankar said one of Wilson’s friends came from Jamaica to celebrate with her. He was with her on Tuesday night.
Police said the 26-year-old ex-boyfriend, who was driving a dark grey Mazda 3, spotted the white Toyota Aqua, which was being driven by the Jamaican man, at a bar in Gasparillo.
There was an argument and Wilson and the Jamaican left. They were followed and, near the end of the southbound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway, at Gandhi Village roundabout in Debe, the Mazda got in front of the Aqua, then stopped and the vehicles collided.
When both cars came to a stop, Wilson got out and there was an altercation.
Sankar said she heard that the ex-boyfriend hit her sister with a wheel spanner on her head. Wilson and the Jamaican then ran. They crossed the median and were on the northbound lane of the highway.
The ex-boyfriend got back into his car and headed to the northbound lane where he slammed into Wilson.
She was found by police lying in the median and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident happened before 10 p.m.
Not the first time
It was not the first time that Wilson was attacked by the man.
Sankar said the man had dragged her sister out of a taxi. She said her sister did not tell her about it until after some time had passed.
‘She say she was too ashamed that the whole scene was going on…You know these days people does record everything and put you up on social media. So she say she just started to cry and he push her in his car…She didn’t tell me anything else after.’
Wilson did not make a report to the police.
Sankar urged women to speak out.
‘If you have a problem with somebody, the slightest thing, let somebody else know because my sister used to keep a lot to herself and, as my father say, he didn’t even know this was going on. It escalate so fast. My sister didn’t even think that person would have done that to her. So, I just say, take it as a warning because you don’t know what people have in their mind.’
Sankar described her sister as a family-oriented person.
She invited her to go to the beach on Tuesday and also celebrated her birthday with relatives and friends at a concert on Saturday. ‘She was loved by many… My sister was one of the sweetest persons you could know. Once she likes you, she is the sweetest thing. If she don’t like you, she not going and force to be friends with you. She was the best sister I could have ever have…my only sister I have, she was taken away,’ Sankar said.
Wilson, who worked at a bakery, was on time off but was due to return to work next month.
Police revisited the scene of the incident yesterday along with the Jamaican.
