Suriname became the latest team to arrive on local shores to compete in the 7th edition of the Winfield Braithwaite Caribbean Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championship, which is slated for August 16-18 at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

This was confirmed in a press release from the Guyana Boxing Association. The Dutch-speaking contingent arrived yesterday and joins Grenada, who arrived two days prior, as part of the overseas delegation.

According to the correspondence, the team, which will be supervised by head coach Dino Nasim, comprises nine pugilists. It also contains assistant coach Anthony Nekrui, manager Saraya Truideman, and caretaker Grace Sahdoe.

Several other Caribbean nations are expected to arrive shortly. They include St Lucia, Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago. Guyana is the defending overall champion, a title they have yet to surrender since the event’s inception.
