Man in custody after found with improvised gun

A 24-year-old man was arrested early yesterday morning by police at a street party on Pike Street with an orange-coloured improvised firearm and three 9mm rounds of ammunition..

According to a release from the police, ranks visited the party acting on information received and conducted a search on the man’s person, resulting in the weapon being discovered.

When asked whether he was the holder of a firearm licence, Anthony Bumbury responded in the negative, the release said. He was then told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Alberttown Police Station.

The suspected improvised firearm and ammunition were marked in his presence, placed into separate evidence bags, sealed and lodged to be taken to the ballistics section for analysis, the release said. Investigations are ongoing.
