Caribbean Schoolboys Boxing Championship

Guyana recorded a mixed night of results following a record one win and a loss in the international segment when the 7th edition of the Winfield Braithwaite Caribbean Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championship commenced last night at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Local lad Chance Niles overcame Orlando Monrose of St. Lucia via decision in the Junior 70Kg category. However, his compatriot Antonio Stephens went down to Jaquan Grant of Barbados via a points decision in the Junior 66Kg category.

Meanwhile, in the Junior 66Kg category, St. Lucia’s Harve Charlemagne defeated Zade Williams of Trinidad and Tobago via a points decision. Similarly, Makieve Bellielle of Trinidad and Tobago bested St. Lucia’s Denzel Stephen via a points decision.

Likewise, Lammend Alexander (St Lucia) defeated Cai Reid of Barbados via a points decision in the Junior 80Kg+ division. In other results, Kenroy Klass of Guyana defeated his counterpart Rayon France via point’s decision in the Schoolboys 37Kg division. Continuing in the same division, Shemroy Holder of Guyana defeated his compatriot Harold Waldron via referee stoppage.

On the other hand, Neraj Mahadeosingh of Trinidad and Tobago defeated Valentino Artist of Suriname via referee stoppage in the Youth 57Kg division.

In the Youth 60Kg category, Chael Maine of Suriname defeated Donali Cooman of St. Lucia via a points decision.

The event continues today at the same venue with another round of matches. Guyana is the defending overall champion, a title they have yet to surrender since the event’s inception.
