Pele and Black Pearl continued their unbeaten run in the Georgetown Football Association Senior Men’s League following comfortable victories at the National Training Centre, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Pele crushed Vengy 4-0 to sit atop the standings on seven points owing to superior goal differential. Kacy John commenced the rout in the third minute. The aforesaid conversion was followed by a Denzel Junior strike in the 19th minute as Pele doubled their advantage. The score would remain unchanged entering the halftime interval.
Upon the resumption, Jamal Nicholas made his presence felt as he found the back of the net in the 65th minute to further extend his side’s advantage. The contest was then sealed three minutes onwards in the form of a Jaheim Hubert strike.
Due to the outcome, Pele climbs atop the standings on seven points following a record of two wins and a draw, while the loser remains in eighth place on three points.
Likewise, Black Pearl dismantled Order and Discipline 3-0 to move onto seven points and secure second place. A second half blitz following three conversions in the space of eight minutes sealed the result after a scoreless first half interval.
The experienced Peter Smith opened the proverbial floodgates as he scored in the 48th minute. The lead was doubled five minutes onwards as Djero Mansfield blasted past the opposing custodian. The eventual score-line was then sealed as Jared Cumberbatch made his presence felt in the 56th minute.
With the win, Black Pearl climbs to second place on seven points. On the other hand, Order and Discipline remain in ninth place on a point.
The winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000, respectively, and the corresponding accolade.
