Airy Hall, Mahaica, march on in East Demerara Football

Airy Hall and Mahaica Determinators recorded hard-fought wins when the East Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League continued on Friday evening at the Buxton Community Centre ground.

Airy Hall overcame Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph 5-4. Elton Amsterdam handed Airy Hall the lead in the third minute, before Omani Williams doubled the lead as he found the back of the net in the eighth minute.

However, their opponent restored parity to proceedings following two goals in the space of nine minutes. Dellon Harry halved the lead in the 21st minute, before Trevon Hazel etched his name on the score-sheet in the 30th minute to equalise.

Though Airy Hall responded in equal measure with two goals in the space of five minutes to restore their initial advantage.

Ewart Abel made his presence felt with a 36th minute strike, before Jason Ronaldo blasted his effort past the custodian in the 41st minute to push the score to 4-2.

The score ballooned to 5-2 as Lorenzo Halley netted following the resumption of play. A two-goal blitz from (BV)/Triumph ignited panic within the Airy Hall ranks.

Hazel reduced the lead in the 77th minute to seal his double. Harry then completed his brace in the 84th minute to further reduce the deficit to 4-5.

Nonetheless, the Airy Hall backline thwarted the remaining attempts at an equaliser to seal the win.

With the win, Airy Hall maintained their perfect start of three consecutive wins and climbed atop the standings on nine points. On the other hand, the loser drops to the cellar position and remains pointless.

Meanwhile, Mahaica bested Melanie 2-0. Kevin Sherwood recorded the only conversion of the half as he netted in the 30th minute. He then sealed the result following a strike in the 59th minute.

Due to the outcome, Mahaica maintain their unbeaten record and climb into second place on seven points, while the loser drops to sixth place and remains pointless.

The event continues today at the same venue with another doubleheader. At 17:00hrs, Airy Hall will oppose Haslington, while the second match will pit Buxton Stars against Victoria Kings at 19:00hrs.
