The Mainstay Women’s Deve-lopment Group is set to open a new bakery in Lake Mainstay next month that is expected to not only serve that community but other neighbouring communities.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Shaundel’s Bakery will open its doors next month.

“With newly enhanced baking skills, this group will create baked goods made only from locally sourced ingredients like cassava flour,” the ministry said in a release.

It said neighbouring communities along the Essequibo Coast will benefit and the new bakery will provide income and promote self-sustainability for the women involved.

The group is led by Yvonne Pearson (Chairwoman), Gem Fredericks (Treasurer), Joan Allen (Secretary), Bethlyn Adrian (Vice Chair), Fayon Charles (Assistant Secretary/ Treasurer) and eight other members. It was named in honour of the late chairwoman of the group Shaundel Fernandes.

The release said that the ministry has also provided the women with training opportunities in digital marketing, tourism, and customer service to further enhance their skill sets.
