Four police prosecutors complete digital forensic training in Barbados

A Digital Forensic Training course for police prosecutors was recently held in Bridgetown, Barbados, from 12th to 16th August 2024 as part of efforts towards bolstering law enforcement capabilities in the Eastern Caribbean.

A Guyana Police Force (GPF) release on Friday informed that the training focused on enhancing digital forensic expertise and was attended by several officers from across the region, including four sergeants representing the Guyana Police Force: Woman Sergeant Miguel, Woman Sergeant Barnes, Sergeant Moore, and Sergeant Lacon.

They currently serve as prosecutors within the Regional Divisions Court Superintendent’s offices of the GPF, and participated in this comprehensive training to strengthen their technical skills in the rapidly evolving field of digital forensics. This is also part of the GPF’s plan to strengthen its investigative and prosecutorial capacities

The release explained that digital forensic training equips police officers with the specialised knowledge required to navigate the complexities of modern crime. From understanding the intricacies of digital evidence to mastering the latest forensic tools and techniques, the training provides officers with a robust skill set, enabling them to combat cybercrime, investigate digital communications, and bring criminals to justice.

It also noted that this initiative aligns with the GPF’s 2022-2026 Strategic Plan, which emphasises “Developing its People” as one of its key pillars. With the support of the United States Embassy, which facilitated this important training programme, GPF says it will continue to prioritise advancing the skills of its officers, the release added.
