Showcasing Guyana through Art

Dear Editor,

The beauty of Guyana has been expressed and embraced by many scholars and artists around the world. There is an opportunity for us to further showcase this beauty in our museums and libraries.

One idea would be to have a national art exhibition, which showcases 100 pieces of art covering each administrative region’s top 10 landmarks and botanical sites. These collections could include waterfalls, mountains, unique botanical specimens and other ecotourism attractions. This dovetails well into our nation’s pursuit to become a top ecotourism destination. Castellani House/The Presidential Residence and Umana Yana are great locations for the launch of such an Art Exhibit.

Having an ecotourism exhibit/museum in each of the ten administrative regions would also add to the allure of the destination for eco tourists. Furthermore, linking these exhibits to literature at the libraries across the country will provide the added appeal that visitors in this tourism category would appreciate. The intellectual, family oriented and cultural content will also benefit our citizens in the regions and equip them with the tools needed to be successful hosts to guests who are looking to be immersed in our ecological offering.

Sincerely,
