Guyana thrashed the Leeward Islands by 10 wickets in round two of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) U-17 2-Day Championship yesterday at the National Cricket Centre in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.

Resuming on 97/2 in pursuit of the Leeward Islands first innings total of 144, the Guyanese were eventually dismissed for 176, which was a lead of 32 runs.

In the second innings, the Leeward Islands were skittled for 127 in 46.4 overs. Golcharran Chulai, who snared 4-34 in the first innings, returned to torment the Leeward Islands batting lineup as he recorded 6-28 to end on 10-62.

Set a target of 95, the Guyanese raced to 96/0. Captain Jonathan Van Lange led the way with a belligerent 65 from a mere 31 deliveries, which included seven sixes and four boundaries. Rampersaud Ramnauth chipped in with an undefeated 19. At the Inshan Ali Park, Barbados crushed Trinidad and Tobago by eight wickets. Possessing a first innings lead of 25 after recording 121 and then dismissing Barbados for 96, Trinidad and Tobago were skittled for 106 in 40.2 overs, in the process setting the Barbadians target of 131. Barbados, in response, stormed to 134/2 in 31.5 overs. Zachary Carter led the way with an unbeaten 86, while Joshua Dorne added 38.

Meanwhile, over at Gilbert Park, the Windward Islands and Jamaica played to a draw. Chasing 203 for victory, after the Windward Islands had finished on 159/9 in their second innings following a first innings lead of 44, the Jamaicans ended on 177/9 in their pursuit.

Guyana will oppose Barbados on Wednesday in round three.
