Ashley Khalil, Alex Arjoon, and Daniel Ince advanced in the women’s and men’s open divisions, respectively, when the Caribbean Senior Squash Championships commenced yesterday at the Georgetown Club facility and the National Racquet Centre in Georgetown.
Khalil (Guyana) defeated Margit Daugela (KY) 11-2, 11-4, and 11-4 in her first fixture before returning to defeat countrywoman Akeila Wiltshire in straight sets 11-2, 11-5, and 11-5.
In the men’s division, Arjoon dismissed Aaron Levy (Jamaica) 11-2, 11-1, and 11-3 before defeating Alex Stewart (Barbados) 11-5, 11-5, and 11-7.
On the other hand, Daniel Ince (Guyana) overcame Dane Schwier (Jamaica) 11-9, 11-3, 11-13, and 11-7. He then squeaked past compatriot Jason-Ray Khalil 11-9, 11-7, 6-11, 5-11, and 11-6.
In other results, Ashley DeGroot defeated Rhea Khan (T&T) 14-12, 11-6, and 11-3. She also bested compatriot Kirsten Gomes (Guyana) 3-11, 11-9, 11-6, and 11-4.
Meanwhile, Mary Fung-A-Fat (Guyana) defeated Marian Goodall (KY) 11-2, 11-4, and 11-2, and L. M. Gabby Fraser (Guyana) 11-1, 11-5, and 11-6. The event continues today at the same venue.
